At last! It’s not long till Christmas and nothing can spoil that for me. It’s going to be a wonderful way to end what has been a tumultuous year for all of us.
Christmas has always been a magical time for me, filled with surprises and special moments that I’ll never forget. I’ve got so many special memories of waking so early on Christmas morning, sneaking out to the Christmas tree and secretly checking out all the presents that had mysteriously arrived. I loved guessing what each one was and resisting (almost always) the urge to make a small tear in the wrapping just to see if I’d guessed right. I had 8 brothers and sisters so there was always a big stack of goodies and I always marveled at how Santa knew so much about what we all wished for.
These days I get the most pleasure from watching the grandchildren unwrap their gifts while I sit back and sip on a festive fizzy glass of bubbles.
It’s a wonderful family time, and will be especially so this year when we’ve been separated by Covid borders for so long from our Auckland and Melbourne daughters, sons-in-law and grandkids. Sadly we won’t see the Melburnians this year but there’ll be phone calls and video links to share the occasion with them. In between times we’ll spare a thought for our much-loved Benny The Bossycat who’s booked in for a few nights at his favourite boarding cattery. Here’s hoping he still likes us when we come to pick him up!
It’s been a tough year for so many of us and I’m hoping so much that we spend not just Christmas Day but lots of other happy family times as we move into 2022.
No matter what happens, no-one can take away the Christmas spirit. For me, it all begins with choosing the gifts – this can start very early in the year – wrapping the gifts and hoping, hoping, hoping that I’ve picked the right item. This is a real “Nana thing” – we want to get everything just right but we can never quite convince ourselves that we’ve chosen the right size, the right colour, the right style ….
This is also a time when I get a lot of pleasure from wrapping parcels to send to our many customers all around New Zealand.
Whether it’s someone buying a luxurious Magne-Sleep pure lambswool magnetic underlay for someone close to them, someone choosing our wonderful Mulberry Silk pillows for a special person in their life, or someone choosing Magne-Feet or Magne-Dots as much-appreciated stocking fillers – I’m happy to know they’ve chosen a product that can be so helpful in so many ways.
Despite the pressure on couriers and delivery systems we’ve been getting product through to customers in very short time. We’ll be sending out right up till Christmas Eve – and we’ll be back just a couple of days after Christmas for any emergency gifts. So check out our website – there’s a really good range of very high quality, super -value products for you to choose from. Call us (09 431 5236) or email us if you have any questions and we’ll do all we can to make this a very special Christmas for you and your loved ones.
My Christmas Cake
This year I’m making a Christmas Cake just like my mum used to. It’s a very special recipe, rich in old-style ingredients and splashed with just a little bit of sherry to give it that unique flavour. It’ll be a time-consuming process but I really enjoy it and I look forward to bringing it out of the oven and breathing in those memorable aromas of long-ago family Christmases. I don’t even mind too much if the grandchildren don’t exactly love it because it keeps so well and I’m happy to come home with the leftovers to enjoy through January.
Last year my husband made what he claimed was an Italian Chocolate Christmas Cake which looked very tasty but received fairly mixed reviews from the family. I think he might have overdone the chocolate – his big weakness – and it proved a bit too rich for most of us so that’s off the menu this year.
He’s since turned his tastes to Indian food and I’m a little apprehensive that he’ll want to produce some festive Tandoori Christmas Tarts to grace our table this year. Thankfully he’s not in charge of cooking the ham!
All I want for Christmas is …..
Happy times for everyone
Just the right amount of food and drink
A Summer of sun and fun with families and friends
And for the year ahead …
Less Covid, more freedom
More days and nights of providing our special service to our wonderful customers
More honesty, less “half-truths” in the way some people choose to market their products
More Sleep, Less Pain – our genuine promise for the past 20 years and the reason why Magne-Sleep is New Zealand’s most trusted magnetic underlay.
Merry Christmas To You All!
